fin

Fin aka Sarah Wilson is a singer songwriter who has been making music in Birmingham for the past 8 years.

She first started singing on entry to this planet, but her vocal skills were honed in a church choir between the ages of 8 and 14 (enjoyed the singing not so keen on the other bits: dress wearing, nailing people to crosses you know). She then moved on to writing her own lyrics at school in the form of poems (mostly angst ridden teenage stuff) thanks to a very special English teacher Mrs Koolick who saw a light switch and flicked it.

Whilst all this was happening she had been regularly visiting Auntie Cook a very good lady (stars in the wilderness and all that) who she met whilst trying to remove her hair on the number 16 bus aged three. Auntie Cook had a honky tonk and enough time on her hands (being exactly eighty years older than fin and therefore retired) to teach three finger chords and simple tunes. Fin's keyboard skills are still a little limited as a result but hey at least she tries. This led to said honkey tonk being left to Fin in Auntie Cook's will.

After many years of pretending to want to do A-levels (and actually playing table football, pool, and wonderful pinball) Fin went on, with a list of useless qualifications, to buy an Atari.

This was the beginning of six years solid sat under a double bed (which was obviously on stilts) learning the intricate workings of Cubase and loads of other gubbins (including the obligatory non-working hello I crash all the time P.C. which should never have replaced the Atari in the first place).

One Fiin came about when Robert Shaw (lovely boy and most excellent musician of Swansway, Stylophonic and many other bands) collaborated in the programming and production of songs and lyrics that Fin had written. Some of these are available for you to listen to on this site.

Fin got involved with Funkpig when she took some of these songs along (very shyly and almost dragged through the door by a good friend Murph) for them to listen to. We have since written enough songs for an album and are working at putting it together for your listening pleasure.

Some of the songs are done and dusted and are on this site. Others are performed regularly at Funkpig gigs details of which can also be found here.
